A project highlighting the significance and need for preservation of the American Chestnut tree. Interpretative signage overlooking the five trees planted on Mill Mountain, describes the plight of the American Chestnut and is enjoyed by a large number of visitors to Mill Mountain Park, and neighboring Mill Mountain Zoo. In 2011, Mill Mountain Garden Club received the Garden Club of America Zone VII Conservation Award for the American Chestnut Tree Centennial Project.
